New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) In a significant move to enhance the exploration and operational readiness of coal mines, the government has released a notification permitting private entities accredited by the Quality Council of India (QCI) to conduct prospecting activities for coal and lignite exploration, as detailed in an official statement issued on Friday.
This initiative introduces an additional 18 agencies authorized for prospecting operations concerning coal and lignite, thus providing coal block allottees with increased flexibility and options in selecting these agencies to expedite exploration efforts, the statement clarified.
The exploration phase and the creation of geological reports are essential steps before a coal mine can become operational. The inclusion of these new exploration agencies is projected to save approximately six months of time previously necessary for obtaining a prospecting license, according to the statement.
“Utilizing the authority granted by the second proviso to sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, private entities accredited by the Quality Council of India – National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (QCI NABET) have been designated as Accredited Prospecting Agencies as of November 26, 2025,” the statement explained.
By broadening the pool of certified prospecting agencies, the government intends to leverage private sector resources, fostering efficiency, competitiveness, and technological advancements within the exploration framework.
This initiative is anticipated to notably speed up exploration efforts and facilitate the swift enhancement of mining operations, ultimately boosting resource development and ensuring a greater availability of coal and lignite to address the country’s escalating energy demands.
The government of India is steadfast in its commitment to cultivating a transparent, efficient, and future-oriented mineral exploration environment that fortifies national energy security and fuels economic growth,” the statement emphasized.
