Why is Bihar Minister Mangal Pandey Criticizing Mamata Banerjee Over Bengal SIR?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Nov 28 (NationPress) Bihar's Health and Law Minister and BJP’s West Bengal in-charge Mangal Pandey has launched a vehement critique against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, suggesting that her unease stems from the likelihood of a defeat in the forthcoming elections.
He contends that her resistance to the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in West Bengal signifies her political vulnerability.
Pandey pointed out that Mamata Banerjee, who previously called for stringent measures against infiltrators during the Left's regime in West Bengal, is now allegedly offering them support for her own political benefit.
“This is the same Mamata Banerjee who once raised the infiltrator issue in the Lok Sabha. Today, she has been providing them shelter for years,” Pandey remarked.
In light of the recent Murshidabad incident, he claimed that the TMC government's position is not only anti-Hindu but also favors Muslims.
He further asserted that Mamata Banerjee's political discourse regarding the soil and populace stands in stark contrast to her actions.
“She is willing to jeopardize the unity and security of the nation for vote-bank politics. By opposing the SIR, she is siding with infiltrators and fostering chaos,” Pandey added.
He remarked that her speech in Bangaon (North 24 Parganas) against the Election Commission clearly demonstrated a desire to incite conflict with the Centre, the Election Commission, and the BJP.
Previously, the Election Commission of India (ECI) reported that during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, over 65 lakh names were removed from the voter list, while around 24 lakh new and first-time voters were added.
The Commission provided booth-wise details of the deleted voters to the Supreme Court of India, including categories such as deceased voters, shifted/transferred voters, traceless voters, and duplicate voters.
This submission also encompasses Aadhaar-linked data wherever available, as per ECI officials.
The extensive removal of names drew significant backlash from Bihar’s opposition parties, notably the RJD and the Congress.
Both parties initiated vigorous campaigns accusing the Election Commission of “vote theft,” alleging that numerous supporters were taken off the electoral rolls.
However, despite their prolonged campaign against the Election Commission, the opposition faced a substantial defeat in the recent Assembly elections, showing poor performance throughout the state.
