How are Central Govt Schemes Changing Lives in Begusarai?

Begusarai, May 2 (NationPress) In Bihar, significant transformations are taking place in Begusarai as Central government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) are altering the landscape for both rural and urban households. For many beneficiaries, what once appeared to be mere promises have now become reality—with sturdy homes, reliable incomes, and a rejuvenated sense of self-worth.

The benefits of PMAY are clearly reflected in the stories of individuals like Ranju Devi, Draupadi Devi, and Veena Devi, all of whom are from Badalpur village in the Matihani block. Their previous lives were characterized by the challenges of residing in kutcha houses, fragile structures made from mud, thatch, and bamboo, which were vulnerable to harsh weather.

"I lived in constant dread of scorpions, snakes, and roof collapses during storms," shares Ranju Devi, 50, as she stands proudly in front of her newly built pucca house.

“Thanks to PMAY, I now enjoy peaceful nights. I am profoundly thankful to Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi for this transformative gift.”

Her neighbor, Draupadi Devi, expresses similar gratitude.

"We received Rs 1.2 lakh through the scheme. It may not sound significant to some, but it has changed everything for us. For the first time, I feel secure in my own home."

40-year-old Veena Devi shares her personal journey.

"During monsoons, we would rush to protect our belongings and kids. Today, my house is robust. This scheme has provided me with more than just shelter; it has given me confidence," she stated.

In addition to housing, economic empowerment is also flourishing through Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, which delivers direct financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Beneficiaries like Rajendra Mahato, 52, and Anandi Shah, 65, from Sankh Taraiya village, are experiencing a decline in their reliance on local moneylenders due to the Rs 6,000 they receive annually from the scheme.

"Previously, I had to borrow money for seeds and household expenses. Now, this modest yet regular support allows me to regain my independence," Mahato noted.

"It may not be a large amount, but for us, it represents a significant change."

Shah, who possesses a small plot of land, referred to the scheme as a “lifeline.”

"I faced challenges in enrolling at first, but now that I receive the payments, I feel a sense of security. I’m thankful to the Prime Minister for considering farmers like me."

Launched in 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aims to provide affordable housing for all by 2022. The initiative not only offers financial support but also empowers marginalized communities. Over 2.67 lakh homes have been sanctioned specifically for women, while housing has also been allocated to transgender individuals. Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs approved the construction of an additional 3.53 lakh houses under PMAY-Urban 2.0, including in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

PM-KISAN continues to support farmers by distributing Rs 6,000 annually in three installments. This scheme aims to alleviate small-scale agricultural distress, aiding farmers in procuring inputs, enhancing productivity, and ensuring their financial autonomy.

The upcoming 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme is expected to be credited to farmers' accounts in June 2025. Eligible farmers are projected to receive Rs 2,000 each, though the exact date remains unannounced.
