New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launched a strong attack on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, labeling him a "failed LoP" and accusing the Congress party of lacking direction under his leadership.

Goyal further criticized the Congress-led Opposition coalition for its continuous interruptions during parliamentary sessions, particularly following the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

He raised concerns about the Opposition's behavior, especially their request for a discussion regarding the West Asia conflict while a debate on the no-confidence motion against the Speaker was already on the agenda.

“It is quite unfortunate that the Indian National Congress is evading meaningful debate. At their insistence, the notice against the Speaker was accepted. After discussions, it was agreed that this issue would be addressed today. Yet, they introduced another motion,” Goyal stated to reporters, commenting on the situation in Parliament.

The Union Minister went on to assert that the Congress party shows neither an understanding of parliamentary processes nor a respect for constitutional principles.

“The Congress party shows a lack of comprehension regarding parliamentary procedure, nor do they demonstrate respect for the Constitution,” Goyal critiqued, emphasizing the party's conduct in the House.

He further claimed that since Rahul Gandhi assumed the role of Leader of Opposition, the functioning of Parliament has been consistently disrupted by what he termed as premeditated tactics from the Congress.

“Since Rahul Gandhi took on the role of Leader of Opposition, he has shown no inclination to facilitate the functioning of Parliament. Instead, he arrives with a premeditated agenda, using placards, obstructing proceedings, and squandering parliamentary time on irrelevant issues,” Goyal added.

The minister also suggested that members of the Opposition's INDIA bloc seemed to be avoiding debate and hinted at possible internal divisions within the alliance.

“Rahul Gandhi is indeed a failed LoP. He displays no understanding of the Constitution nor an interest in grasping the parliamentary procedures, rules, or protocols. His actions clearly indicate that Congress is a directionless, utterly ineffective Opposition party. I believe his allies, the DMK and TMC, recognize this, which is why they opted not to support Congress in today’s debate,” he added.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad also took the opportunity to criticize the Congress during a press interaction, accusing the party of undermining parliamentary standards and turning House proceedings into a farce.

“The Congress seems to believe it can trivialize Parliament. There are no rules, no decorum, and no standards being upheld. You have moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker, which is an uncommon event. The Speaker, upholding the dignity of the position, accepted an urgent proposal despite there being no legal obligation to do so, yet he is not overseeing the House,” Prasad explained.

He reiterated that the ruling party was ready to engage in a discussion, but accused the Congress of abandoning Parliament and shunning the debate.

“We are prepared for a debate, yet they have exited the Parliament and are unwilling to engage in any discussions. Under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, Congress disregards the Constitution and parliamentary traditions,” he asserted.

BJP MP Dinesh Sharma also commented on the matter, praising Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for his commitment to parliamentary traditions.

“It is a privilege to have collaborated with Om Birla in the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a staunch believer in and adheres to parliamentary traditions,” Sharma remarked.

He further alleged that the motion introduced by the Opposition aimed to divert attention away from significant discussions in the House.

“This motion has been introduced merely to distract the House from productive dialogue. They simply wish to waste time,” he concluded.
