Groom Calls Off Wedding Due to Food Delay, Marries Cousin Instead

Chandauli, Dec 30 (NationPress) A strange event took place in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, where a groom called off his wedding due to an alleged delay in food service, leaving the bride and her family abandoned at the ceremony venue. Later that same day, he married his cousin, as reported by the police.
The bride and her relatives subsequently approached law enforcement, seeking justice, and asserted that they had given Rs 1.5 lakh to the groom's family just hours before the wedding was set to occur.
In a statement to the media, the bride revealed her marriage had been arranged with Mehtab seven months prior.
On December 22, as the wedding procession arrived at her residence in Hamidpur village, Mehtab and his relatives were warmly welcomed by her family.
"I was prepared since morning. The groom and his family came, dined, and then verbally abused and assaulted my parents before departing. I later sought police assistance for justice," she recounted.
The bride mentioned that while the wedding guests were seated for their meal, there was a minor delay in serving food to Mehtab.
His anger escalated as his friends teased him, leading to an altercation where he and his family reportedly insulted the bride's relatives, igniting a dispute.
Efforts by village elders to mediate proved futile as Mehtab declined to proceed with the wedding and returned home.
In the aftermath of the shocking incident, Mehtab married one of his cousins later that same day.
Upon discovering Mehtab's new marriage, the bride and her parents went to the police post in Industrial Nagar on December 23 to file a complaint.
After expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of action, they escalated their grievance to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Laghe.
In their written complaint, the bride's mother stated that the family incurred a loss of Rs 7 lakh due to the expenses incurred for the wedding arrangements and catering for approximately 200 guests from the groom's side.
She also noted that an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh was given to the groom's family shortly before the ceremony.
Sources indicate that SP Laghe summoned both parties, who agreed to settle the matter amicably.
According to Circle Officer Rajesh Rai, "A written agreement was established, stipulating that an amount of Rs 1.61 lakh would be compensated to the woman's family."
