India shed 'Fragile Five' tag under Modi reforms, says Gujarat CM Patel
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday, 30 June declared that India had shed its 'Fragile Five' label to emerge among the world's five fastest-growing economies, crediting the transformation to policy reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Patel made the remarks at the valedictory session of the fourth Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara.
Key Remarks from the Valedictory Session
"The Indian economy, once counted among the 'Fragile Five', has now emerged as one of the world's five fastest-growing economies," Patel said, citing Modi's governing mantra of 'Reform, Perform and Transform' as the driver of a more favourable policy environment for industry.
He also referenced the concepts of 'Vocal for Local' and 'Local to Global', describing them as the foundation of the conference's success in projecting regional capabilities onto a global stage. Patel added that Prime Minister Modi had protected Indian industry's interests despite challenging geopolitical headwinds.
India's Global Standing and Diaspora Confidence
Patel highlighted growing international confidence in India's leadership, noting that Indians living abroad had contributed foreign remittances worth Rs 13 lakh crore during 2025. "Today the world has complete confidence in the Prime Minister's leadership," he said, pointing to the diaspora's rising economic engagement as a marker of that trust.
Conference Outcomes: Investment and Employment
The fourth Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference concluded with investment proposals worth more than Rs 3.34 lakh crore secured through 3,759 memoranda of understanding. The projects are expected to generate more than 1.97 lakh potential employment opportunities, according to officials.
Patel noted that the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, originally launched by Narendra Modi in 2003, had helped establish Gujarat as a global investment destination. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to balanced regional development in line with the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision.
Who Attended the Concluding Session
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh were among the senior figures present. Industrialists, government officials, and representatives of industry associations also attended the closing session.
With the conference wrapped up and MoUs signed, attention now shifts to whether the investment proposals translate into ground-level project execution — the metric that will ultimately define the summit's legacy.
