During a press briefing following a cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar, Vaghani highlighted the Chief Minister's assertion that Gujarat must take a prominent role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition of transforming India into the world’s third-largest economy and achieving the target of a $5 trillion economy.
Vaghani noted that under the Prime Minister’s guidance, various economic reforms have led to a steady GDP increase and a reduction in inflation, with Gujarat remaining a vital growth engine for the nation.
In this light, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled a new strategy during the cabinet meeting aimed at fostering inclusive and balanced economic growth across the state.
Elaborating on the discussions, Vaghani mentioned that the Chief Minister pointed out that while certain districts in Gujarat are economically advanced, others still possess substantial untapped development potential.
Therefore, he directed the Chief Secretary and senior officials to pinpoint the unique assets and opportunities of each district and devise customized action plans to enhance economic activity in those areas with lower GDP contributions, ensuring they are incorporated into the state’s overall growth narrative.
The Chief Minister also underscored the necessity of district-level planning, promoting investments, and fostering sector-specific development to achieve sustainable growth.
Expressing confidence in the government's strategy, Vaghani stated that the state's targeted planning and economic empowerment at the district level will significantly aid in realizing the Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat @ 2047. Gujarat plays a crucial role in India’s economic progress, consistently ranking among the top-performing states in industrial output, exports, and attracting investments. As a major center for manufacturing, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and engineering goods, the state makes a substantial contribution to India’s GDP and merchandise exports, aided by solid infrastructure, ports, power availability, and business-friendly policies.
Gujarat’s leadership in sectors such as renewable energy, logistics, MSMEs, and agri-based industries has further solidified its status as a growth engine of the national economy, while ongoing reforms, ease of doing business initiatives, and large-scale investments continue to bolster its contribution to India’s long-term economic development.
