Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a series of one-on-one meetings with senior industry leaders in Mumbai on 3 September, intensifying the state's investor outreach ahead of the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2027. The discussions spanned large-scale steel manufacturing, electric vehicles, copper recycling, technical textiles, and financial services — sectors the state is actively seeking to anchor before the summit opens in January.

Key Meetings and What Was Discussed

Patel's meeting with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra centred on expanding the conglomerate's presence in Gujarat, with specific interest in the electric vehicle ecosystem, future mobility solutions, and a potential footprint in GIFT City. The Chief Minister underscored Gujarat's port-led logistics network, industrial infrastructure, and policy framework as competitive advantages for advanced manufacturing and financial services investment.

In his meeting with Amit Harlalka, Chief Executive Officer of AM/NS India, Patel said the company had shared a vision to build what could become the world's largest steel manufacturing plant in Gujarat, with an ultimate capacity of 25 million tonnes. According to Patel, AM/NS India is making 'substantial progress' on an ongoing capital investment programme of ₹80,000 crore, targeted for completion by June, while also committing an additional ₹10,000 crore towards major renewable energy and battery storage systems at Hazira. The company had earlier announced a ₹60,000 crore project to raise the Hazira plant's capacity from 9 million tonnes per annum to 15 million tonnes.

Patel also met Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries, with talks focusing on expanding the company's Gujarat manufacturing presence — particularly in copper recycling, e-waste management, and the circular economy. The Chief Minister said discussions included the planned inauguration of Hindalco's copper recycling plant in December, alongside further investment opportunities in sustainable industrial practices.

A separate meeting with Dipali Goenka, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Welspun Living Ltd, addressed scaling up technical textiles and modernising operations at the company's existing facilities in Anjar, Kutch and Vapi. The talks reportedly included leveraging incentives under the Gujarat Textile Policy 2024 to drive expansion, exports, employment, and skills development.

Roadshow Format and Diplomatic Outreach

The meetings were held at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai as part of a formal VGGS 2027 roadshow. Consul Generals were also scheduled to attend the evening session, aimed at strengthening engagement with both the business community and the diplomatic corps ahead of the summit.

This comes days after Gujarat held a curtain-raiser in New Delhi on 31 August, where Patel invited domestic and international investors to explore opportunities in manufacturing, new technologies, and green growth.

The 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is scheduled for 10–12 January 2027 under the theme 'Viksit Gujarat – Shaping Global Future'. The summit will place particular emphasis on emerging sectors including semiconductors, fintech, green hydrogen, artificial intelligence, soft power, and green growth.
