Gujarat CM Patel courts VGGS 2027 investments worth thousands of crores in Delhi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday, 31 August held back-to-back meetings with top industry leaders in New Delhi, drawing proposed investments spanning automobiles, chemicals, renewable energy, green manufacturing and advanced technology ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2027. The outreach, anchored at a curtain-raiser event at Bharat Mandapam, signals Gujarat's intent to lock in marquee commitments well before the main summit opens on 10 January 2027.
Key Investment Proposals on the Table
JBM Group Vice-Chairman Nishant Arya met Patel to discuss a proposed ₹3,500 crore expansion of auto-component and electric bus manufacturing in Gujarat. The company has maintained a 17-year manufacturing presence in the state and currently employs more than 9,000 people across Sanand, Vithalapur, and Becharaji. Talks also covered potential tie-ups to establish compressed biogas (CBG) plants and scale up advanced energy-storage systems.
DCM Shriram Chairman and Senior Managing Director Ajay Shriram, along with Aditya Shriram, discussed long-term investment plans of ₹8,000–10,000 crore at Dahej over the next five to seven years, including captive green-energy integration. Patel congratulated the company on its Jhagadia facility receiving Global Lighthouse recognition from the World Economic Forum.
EV Push and Renewable Energy Ambitions
JSW MG Motor India Managing Director Anurag Mehrotra outlined a phased expansion at Halol that would scale production capacity from 1.1 lakh vehicles to 5 lakh cars, backed by an investment of more than ₹3,750 crore. Around 80 per cent of planned production is expected to be electric vehicles. Women reportedly account for 40 per cent of the company's workforce at the facility.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd CEO and Managing Director Sanjay Banga discussed the company's ongoing collaboration with Gujarat, covering additional solar and wind capacity, a 4 GW facility, and a proposed 20 GW battery-storage ecosystem at Dholera — one of the largest such proposals in the country.
Technology and Manufacturing Depth
Schneider Electric India Managing Director and CEO Deepak Sharma met Patel to discuss strengthening the company's manufacturing base in Gujarat, including an upcoming fourth facility and specialised technologies for hyperscale data centres. According to Patel, Schneider's Gujarat operations support semiconductor and large technology infrastructure projects across India and export to 17 global markets. The company also partners with 50 state Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to build technical talent in the state.
Broader VGGS 2027 Outreach
The Delhi curtain-raiser is part of a wider pre-summit engagement that includes companies such as Seoul Semiconductors, Shree Cement, LG Energy Solutions, Max Healthcare, ACME Solar, AirTrunk, Mankind Pharma, and Sber Bank, among others. The programme follows Patel's recent high-level investment outreach to the US and Canada, and is designed to bring together leading industrialists, heads of missions, and senior Central government officials ahead of the main summit, scheduled from 10 to 12 January 2027 in Gujarat. The curtain-raiser is intended to convert early-stage discussions into firm investment and expansion proposals before the summit opens.
