Aji Dam drowning: Four family members dead in Rajkot rescue chain tragedy
Four members of a Rajkot family drowned in Aji Dam on Saturday, 3 May 2025, after a temple visit turned fatal when a series of rescue attempts pulled each person into deeper water, police said. The deceased have been identified as rickshaw driver Bharat Jadav (42), his sons Dhaval (18) and Rohit (26), and his wife's nephew Dhruv Makwana (15).
How the Tragedy Unfolded
According to police, the family had arrived at the edge of Aji Dam near the Mogal Mata temple between 4 pm and 5 pm to wash their rickshaw and offer prayers at the riverside temple. Officials said a survivor's account indicated that Rohit entered the water first, lost his balance, and began struggling in deep water.
Dhaval and Dhruv then jumped in to save him but also began drowning. Bharat Jadav subsequently entered the water in an attempt to rescue all three, after which all four were swept into deeper water.
