Gandhinagar, Sep 15 (NationPress) In a remarkable homage to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday (September 17), the Gujarat State Yoga Board is set to kick off an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing obesity throughout the state. Chairman Shishpal Singh Rajput revealed on Monday that 75 unique programmes will be conducted across 75 different sites, emphasizing Yoga and diet, with an objective to assist 10 lakh individuals across 33 districts in losing excess weight.
This initiative, backed by the Gujarat government and the Ministry of Health, will be implemented in three phases, merging traditional Ayurvedic methods with contemporary fitness insights. The campaign aims not only to diminish physical weight but also to alleviate mental stress, addressing both the body and the mind.
“Our research indicates that one out of every four individuals in Gujarat struggles with obesity,” Rajput stated.
“Through these programmes, we intend to guide participants on effective weight-loss techniques, evaluate BMI levels, and highlight the significance of Yoga and Ayurveda. By adhering to the plan diligently, participants can lose as much as 10 kilograms.”
Rajput further pointed out that obesity has evolved into a worldwide health emergency, attributing the increase in cases to sedentary lifestyles and poor dietary choices.
“Inactivity and fast food options – such as pizza and burgers – are significant contributors,” he remarked.
“Individuals must revert to traditional, holistic approaches.”
He also acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s ongoing concern about the rising obesity issue.
“Our Prime Minister has consistently emphasized the significance of a healthy lifestyle. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has echoed this mission, encouraging us to strive for an obesity-free Gujarat.”
Born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, a town in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, Narendra Modi is the third child of Damodardas Modi and Hiraben Modi. His birthday is widely acknowledged with various social and welfare initiatives across the nation.
Obesity is characterized by an excessive fat accumulation that poses health risks. A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above is the clinical criterion, although waist circumference and other elements are also significant.
