Gandhinagar, February 25 (NationPress) - Over Rs 1,500 crore in Memorandums of Understanding have been established for the enhancement of tourism infrastructure in the Saurashtra area as part of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC)-2025, disclosed Jayram Gamit, the Minister of State for Tourism, during a session in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Detailing the agreements finalized by the Tourism Department, Gamit emphasized that the State Government is committed to reinforcing tourism and its associated infrastructure throughout Gujarat.

“As part of VGRC-2025, the Tourism Department has formalized MoUs with a total projected investment of Rs 1,527.56 crore specifically for the Saurashtra Zone,” he informed.

These agreements are integral to a more extensive plan aimed at developing tourism amenities within the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, thereby luring both national and international visitors while creating local job opportunities and increasing income.

Strategic MoUs have been established with a focus on this goal, he noted.

As per the minister, the initiatives planned for the region include eco-tourism projects, luxury hotels, resorts, and state-of-the-art training facilities.

He mentioned that approximately four strategic MoUs were also signed with leading institutions to facilitate the development of infrastructure, travel aggregators, and heritage sites.

“These initiatives will generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly bolstering industries and job creation in the Rann region,” Gamit stated.

Additionally, he remarked that historical and heritage sites would be safeguarded under this initiative, ensuring the preservation of cultural treasures.

The establishment of heritage hotels and cultural centers is anticipated to enhance local handicrafts and folk arts.

Moreover, he announced that an integrated platform would be launched to offer services like online bookings, guidance, and package tours for travelers.

Expressing optimism regarding the outcomes, Gamit affirmed that this initiative would bolster Gujarat’s reputation both nationally and internationally, contributing to the holistic advancement of the state's tourism sector.

The recently unveiled Budget has already proclaimed 2026 as 'Gujarat Tourism Year'.
