Gandhinagar, Jan 30 (NationPress) This year, Junagadh is preparing to host one of its most meticulously organized Mahashivratri fairs, with the Gujarat government unveiling a range of initiatives to enhance facilities and accessibility for devotees attending the five-day celebration at Bhavnath, located at the base of Girnar, from February 11 to 15.

The arrangements were evaluated during a high-level meeting led by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, which included sadhus, sants, and senior district administration officials.

During his address, Sanghavi emphasized that the fair, often called a “mini Kumbh,” would be held on a grander scale to facilitate smoother movement and improved amenities for the millions of pilgrims anticipated to attend.

“With the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, this year’s Mahashivratri fair promises to be the largest and most memorable to date,” he stated.

A significant highlight this year will be a splendid city procession that will mark the arrival of sadhus and sants, taking place for the first time on the evening of February 11.

To allow more devotees to experience the traditional Ravedi of the Naga sadhus, the route has been extended from 1.5 km to 2 km.

Officials noted that this longer route will help alleviate congestion while enabling more pilgrims to offer their prayers. Security measures have also been notably enhanced.

Sanghavi confirmed that the number of police personnel deployed will rise from the usual 1,600 to over 2,900 this year, with the entire fair area under constant CCTV surveillance.

“Every effort is being made to ensure the fair is conducted safely and without any incidents,” he assured.

The Tourism Department will adorn the entire route with decorations themed around Lord Bholenath, while Junagadh city will be illuminated throughout the fair period.

Selfie spots and information centers will be established along the route, and the Shahi Snan will be live-streamed to allow devotees unable to attend in person to participate in the rituals.

Additional provisions include parking facilities, designated access routes, dormitory-style accommodations, clean drinking water, and sanitary toilets along the fair route.

For the first time, more than 1,000 local youths will volunteer, and over 300 social organizations will provide accommodations and prasad for pilgrims.

During the meeting, a devotional song created for the Mahashivratri fair was also launched, attended by Minister of State for Youth Services and Cultural Activities Jayram Gamit, religious leaders, and senior district officials.
