Gandhinagar, July 25 (NationPress) Gujarat has achieved 55.26 percent of its average seasonal rainfall as of Friday, with the Kutch region leading the state at 64 percent.
Following Kutch, South Gujarat recorded 59.11 percent, North Gujarat had 54.04 percent, Saurashtra reached 54.02 percent, and East-Central Gujarat noted 51.64 percent, according to the latest data from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
Thanks to the extensive rainfall, 28 out of the state’s 206 dams have reached their full capacity. The Sardar Sarovar Dam, which is often referred to as the lifeline of Gujarat, is currently at 59.42 percent capacity, containing 198,503 million cubic feet (MCFT) of water.
The total combined storage of the remaining 206 reservoirs stands at 340,817 MCFT, which is 61.06 percent of their total capacity.
With regard to dam status, 48 dams are on high alert, 19 are under alert, and 23 are under warning.
Among the 206 dams, 62 have been filled to between 70 percent and 100 percent, 41 are between 50 percent and 70 percent, and 38 are between 25 percent and 50 percent full. The most significant rainfall in the past 24 hours was reported in the districts of Tapi, Valsad, and Navsari.
This monsoon period has significantly boosted agricultural activities statewide. As of Friday, kharif sowing has been accomplished in 58.38 lakh hectares, covering 68.23 percent of Gujarat's cultivable land. Groundnut leads with 19.42 lakh hectares, closely followed by cotton at 19.62 lakh hectares.
