New Delhi, May 31 (NationPress) The Crime Branch's Central Range team of the Delhi Police has apprehended Jai Singh, a resident of Nangli Vihar, Harphool Vihar, Baprola, Delhi, who had been declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO) in two cases filed under the Delhi Excise Act, according to an official statement.
For the past two years, Jai Singh had been evading justice, consistently failing to attend court sessions for his trial. His status as a Proclaimed Offender was due to his involvement in two criminal cases concerning illicit liquor trafficking.
On July 16, 2016, he was caught by the Vasant Kunj (South) Police Station while attempting to smuggle illicit liquor. During the operation, authorities seized a substantial haul comprising of 70 cases of Desi Sharab Santra (totaling 70,850 bottles), all labeled “For Sale in Haryana Only.”
The Delhi Police registered a case under the Delhi Excise Act. Yet, after being granted bail, Singh fled and failed to show up in court, prompting the initiation of proclamation proceedings.
On May 28, acting on a precise tip-off, the Central Range Crime Branch received intel about Singh’s hiding spot. The information indicated that this absconding suspect, who had been a PO in two Excise Act cases and missing since May 2023, was concealed in Delhi.
A specialized team was assembled under the guidance of SI Abodh Kumar, while Inspector Veer Singh and ACP Pankaj Arora of the Central Range, Crime Branch, closely supervised the operation.
Using both manual and technical surveillance, multiple raid operations were executed across Central and North Delhi. Ultimately, the team succeeded in capturing Jai Singh from the Nangli Extension area of Najafgarh.
Initial questioning suggested that Jai Singh is a repeat offender. Having dropped out of school after Class 5 and struggling with addiction, he previously worked as a driver. However, since 2016, he has been involved in the illegal liquor trade from Haryana to Delhi. Multiple FIRs have been filed against him across various police stations.
