Jammu, July 20 (NationPress) A gunfight commenced on Sunday in the Kishtwar district of J&K between the security forces and armed terrorists.
Authorities reported that the clash erupted during a Cordon & Search Operation (CASO) in the Khankoo forest area of Kishtwar.
The official statement indicated, "The encounter began as the army and police initiated a CASO in the Khankoo forest, strategically situated between Dachhan and Nagseni, after receiving intelligence regarding the terrorists' presence in the region."
As security forces maneuvered to encircle the hiding terrorists, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a brief yet intense exchange.
“Additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the region. The search operation continues to locate the terrorists,” officials confirmed.
In a related development, the White Knight Corps, stationed in Nagrota, announced on X, “Following specific intel, the Indian Army launched an operation in the Hadal Gal area of Kishtwar Sector. Contact has been established with the terrorists. The operation is currently ongoing.”
Security forces have intensified their operations against not only the terrorists but also their Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sympathizers, aiming to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in J&K.
This robust crackdown on terrorism was instigated after the heinous attack on civilians by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on April 22.
That attack, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including 25 tourists and a local resident, sparked outrage across the nation. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the armed forces a mandate to retaliate for the Pahalgam terror incident.
The armed forces subsequently initiated Operation Sindoor, targeting and dismantling terror infrastructure deep within Pakistan, including areas like Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Nine terror infrastructures were eradicated in these operations, and in a subsequent escalation, facilities associated with the Pakistan army were also destroyed.
