Gurugram, April 7 (NationPress) The cyber crime units of the Gurugram Police have apprehended six individuals involved in a cyber fraud scheme that affected people throughout India, leading to 1,923 complaints totaling ₹8.26 crore, as reported by authorities on Monday.

The suspects have been named as Tej Parkash, Tohfiq, Deepak, Vikas, Vikaram, and Rajesh Sharma.

According to an official, the arrests were made by a team from the Cyber Crime Police Station of the Gurugram Police in connection with various cases.

Upon analyzing data from five mobile devices and four SIM cards recovered from the suspects, the police determined that these individuals were linked to fraudulent activities amounting to approximately ₹8.26 crore, with around 1,923 complaints filed against them nationwide.

The police reported that 78 cases have been registered across the country, including seven cases in Haryana—four of which were in Gurugram.

“The accused deceived individuals through platforms like Instagram, as well as methods of digital detention and phony work-from-home offers. Our team also seized SIM cards and mobile phones utilized in these scams,” stated Priyanshu Diwan, ACP (Cyber Crime).

He mentioned that further actions are being undertaken based on insights gained from the devices recovered from the arrested cyber criminals.

Diwan emphasized that the Gurugram Police cyber teams are actively pursuing necessary measures against cyber offenders.

He added that the Gurugram Police is collaborating closely with other agencies and organizations to combat these frauds.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant against such suspicious callers and exercise caution when sharing personal information with unknown individuals online. Cyber fraudsters typically entice victims with promises of substantial returns, investment opportunities in the stock market, and selling cheap goods online. They may also engage in sextortion via WhatsApp video calls, image morphing, and sending deceptive links through various platforms, posing as customs or police officers to create false cases, or threatening individuals with digital detention,” he advised.
