Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar conducted a briefing on Friday for the 326 Central Observers - encompassing General, Police, and Expenditure categories - ahead of the April 23 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the necessity of adhering strictly to the Model Code of Conduct.
During the review, the CEC instructed that immediate action should be taken in response to any reported violations.
He urged the Observers to facilitate a celebratory atmosphere during the elections, ensuring they are conducted fairly and freely, devoid of any forms of inducement, intimidation, or violence.
The briefing, held via videoconference, was attended by a total of 326 Central Observers and Special Expenditure Observers, along with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu, as detailed in the statement.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, addressed the assembled Observers. In preparation for the 234 Assembly constituencies in this southern state, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed 136 general observers, 40 police observers, and 150 expenditure observers.
He instructed the observers to ensure that the webcasting monitoring control room is thoroughly checked and that a trial run is conducted with all monitoring staff to ensure they are adequately trained to identify and report any discrepancies.
Additionally, the Commission directed observers to promote their contact numbers and specify the times and locations for addressing complaints from the public, political parties, candidates, or their agents.
They were also tasked with verifying the training of Presiding Officers, with a particular focus on the timely input of voter turnout data every two hours, the correct application of indelible ink, and the completion of form 17-C to be shared with present polling agents at the close of polls, among other critical tasks.
To enhance voter experience, CEC Gyanesh Kumar urged observers to ensure fundamental facilities are available at polling stations, including mobile phone deposit services and seating arrangements for voters in queues.
In light of the upcoming hot weather, they were also instructed to guarantee sufficient drinking water and shaded areas at all polling locations, according to the statement.
