Jaipur, Oct 24 (NationPress) A 21-year-old MBBS student from Kota Medical College tragically took her own life after reportedly succumbing to depression due to failing her exams. This heartbreaking incident occurred in Akashvani Colony, which is under the jurisdiction of Nayapura police station in Kota, as confirmed by officials on Friday.
According to SHO Vinod Kumar, the young woman, identified as Prachi Meena, was in her third year of MBBS studies.
She resided with her father, Kamal Prasad, and three siblings in a government quarter.
“Her mother passed away a few years ago, and since then, Prachi had been living with her family in Kota while continuing her education,” SHO Kumar stated.
He noted that Prachi had been extremely troubled following her exam failures, with her father, Kamal Prasad, indicating that she had been experiencing depression in recent days.
“On Thursday, while her elder sister was in another room, Prachi tragically hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her own room,” he remarked.
SHO Kumar further mentioned that her sister discovered the horrific scene and screamed for assistance.
“Upon hearing her cries, neighbors rushed in, freed Prachi from the noose, and immediately transported her to a nearby private hospital. The doctors there referred her to MBS Hospital, where she was pronounced dead after examination,” he said.
According to SHO Kumar, initial investigations indicate that the cause of the suicide was linked to depression stemming from academic failure.
“No suicide note was found at the scene. However, statements from her family and neighbors suggest she had been mentally distressed about her exam results,” he added.
Kamal Prasad, Prachi’s father, works at All India Radio in Jhalawar and commutes daily from Kota for work. Upon hearing the tragic news, he hurried home.
“The police later performed a postmortem at MBS Hospital and returned the body to the family for the final rites,” SHO Kumar concluded.
This tragic event underscores the increasing mental health challenges and pressures faced by students in Kota, a well-known hub for coaching in the country.
Authorities have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC and have initiated further investigations, according to officials.
