Haryana Chief Minister Honors Mothers of the State's Athletes

Gurugram, Jan 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, took part in the Veer Mata Jija Bai State-Level Felicitation Ceremony on Thursday, organized by the state chapter of Kreeda Bharati in Gurugram, to pay tribute to the mothers of both medal winners and participants in the Paralympics and Olympic Games.
During the event, the Chief Minister recognized the contributions of mothers of athletes who represented India at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
In the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, players from Haryana achieved remarkable success, winning five out of six medals secured by the state.
Similarly, in the Paralympic Games, Haryana's athletes brought home eight out of 29 medals that India secured.
Previously, during the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Haryana sent 30 athletes, of whom four contributed to India’s total of seven medals.
Moreover, Haryana's athletes showcased their talent at the Commonwealth Games, where 43 players participated in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, winning a total of 20 medals, as noted by the Chief Minister.
On this special occasion, CM Saini remarked that the ceremony held in Gurugram, the city named after Guru Drona, celebrates the pivotal role of mothers in the realm of sports.
He emphasized that honoring these mothers, who have raised champions, is a proud moment for the entire nation.
This event serves as a platform to show appreciation not just to the athletes but also to their mothers, he stated.
The Chief Minister commended the Haryana state unit of Kreeda Bharati for organizing this significant initiative and announced a financial grant of Rs 21 lakh to the organization.
CM Saini also mentioned the historical significance of mothers, recalling how Mata Jija Bai prepared her son, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to be a formidable warrior and leader.
He declared, "The achievement of a player not only brings pride to their family but also uplifts the pride of the entire community, state, and nation."
The State Sports Minister, Gaurav Gautam, remarked on the unconditional love of mothers, expressing pride in receiving their blessings for the athletes who have brought honor to the country.
He highlighted the government’s achievements, stating that Rs 592 crore has been invested in the development of athletes over the past decade, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the welfare of players and their families.
Prominent attendees included Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma, Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar, Kreeda Bharati National President Gopal Saini, among other dignitaries.
