Chandigarh, June 21 (NationPress) In a significant move towards realizing a 'Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt Haryana', Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday morning spearheaded an impressive gathering of nearly one lakh individuals who engaged in yoga exercises along the banks of the Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra. This event, which celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga, featured renowned yoga guru Swami Ramdev.
Governor Bandaru Dattatraya also participated in the yoga session, practicing pranayama, asanas, and various other exercises in Kurukshetra, the sacred land where Lord Krishna imparted vital teachings on karma and yoga.
Health Minister Kumari Arti Rao and MP Naveen Jindal were also present on stage.
“Practicing yoga under the guidance of Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev made this day exceptionally memorable. When each individual embraces yoga, ailments diminish,” the Chief Minister remarked.
According to an official spokesperson, yoga events across all 22 districts and 121 blocks of the state attracted over 20 lakh participants.
As part of the 'Harit Yoga' initiative aimed at fostering environmental awareness, over 70,000 saplings have already been planted.
Noteworthy is the fact that in 2014, Prime Minister Modi brought yoga to the forefront on the global stage at the United Nations General Assembly.
With backing from 177 nations, June 21 is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga, through which India extends a message of peace, health, and unity to the world.
This year's theme focused on yoga's contributions to physical, mental, and environmental well-being, resonating with the global call for unity and sustainability.
To further promote yoga at the grassroots level, the state government aims to establish 1,000 Vyayamshalas (gymnasiums) in rural locales. So far, 714 have been successfully completed, and 877 AYUSH yoga assistants have been appointed. Special yoga programs have also been organized in these Vyayamshalas.
CM Saini shared with the media that the ancient practice of yoga, as imparted by sages and saints, will serve as a cornerstone in realizing PM Modi's vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.
“The day is approaching when India will emerge as a global leader, with yoga playing a pivotal role. Hence, to disseminate yoga worldwide, the International Day of Yoga was initiated, and today, numerous countries have embraced yoga and acknowledged this day,” he stated.
He emphasized that the preparations for Yoga Day, spanning from villages to urban areas, showcased a remarkable example of social awareness.
CM Saini asserted that the theme for the International Day of Yoga is 'One Earth One Health', which we have implemented in the state by adopting the slogan: 'Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt Haryana'. It is crucial for all citizens to steer clear of drug addiction, particularly for the youth, as it obstructs the progress of any nation.
Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev remarked that both Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and yoga itself are sources of pride for Haryana.
“The Chief Minister embodies the spirit of a Yogi: healthy, self-respecting, and helpful to all. His ever-present happiness is a true reflection of a Yogi's essence,” he concluded.
