Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hazaribagh, March 30 (NationPress) The heinous act of rape and murder involving a minor girl in Kusumbha village, situated in the Vishnugarh police station jurisdiction of Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district, has ignited widespread public fury.
In response to this tragic incident, the BJP and local citizens organized a ‘Hazaribagh Bandh’ on Monday, leading to significant disruptions throughout the area.
Demonstrators flooded the streets in various locations, including Hazaribagh city and the Vishnugarh block headquarters, calling for the prompt apprehension of the perpetrator and stringent punitive measures.
Numerous individuals, comprising Hazaribagh MP Manish Jaiswal, Barhi MLA Manoj Kumar Yadav, and district BJP President Vivekananda Singh, marched through town, chanting slogans and compelling the closure of shops.
Business operations were halted spontaneously in multiple neighborhoods, including the Vishnugarh police station vicinity, Jhumra Market, and Saat Mile.
Commercial activities in Jhumra Market and surrounding areas were entirely suspended, significantly impacting daily life.
Protesters accused law enforcement of failing to detain the main suspect, even six days post-incident, highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
They drew parallels between this incident and the infamous 'Nirbhaya' case from Delhi.
MP Jaiswal expressed his astonishment at the state government’s lack of response regarding this grave crime in Vishnugarh, claiming that the administration has not even extended basic condolences to the victim's family.
According to police reports, the minor had ventured out on Tuesday evening to observe the Ram Navami procession but did not return home. A search was initiated that night, leading to the discovery of her disfigured body in nearby bushes the following day, provoking shock and outrage in the community.
Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the case, although no arrests have been made thus far.
Earlier today, the Jharkhand High Court took suo motu notice of the situation, issuing directives to the State Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) for their input.
The court requested an update on the investigation from the Hazaribagh SP, who participated in the proceedings virtually. The SP assured the court that the suspect would be identified and apprehended shortly.
However, the court noted that the lack of arrests even after six days post-incident is a matter of grave concern.
In the meantime, a significant police presence has been established throughout Hazaribagh district, with the administration closely monitoring the unfolding situation.
