Hazaribagh, April 11 (NationPress) Demonstrations erupted in the city of Hazaribagh, located in Jharkhand, on Friday following the tragic murder of a 25-year-old individual, Prabhat Kumar, in the Khirgaon neighborhood, according to local officials.
The young man was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon, inciting public fury and resulting in a two-hour road blockade at Namaskar Chowk.
As reported by law enforcement, Prabhat, who resided in the vicinity of Bara Bazar police station, had set out on a scooter with his companion Krishna on Thursday evening.
After a couple of hours, his family was alerted that he had been discovered critically injured in Bakar Gali within Khirgaon. He had suffered a severe wound to the back of his head, believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon.
He was promptly transported to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital in Hazaribagh, but doctors later referred him to RIMS, Ranchi. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Upon hearing the news of the murder, local residents gathered at Namaskar Chowk on Friday morning, blocking the main road while demanding the swift apprehension of the perpetrators and compensation for the victim’s family.
The demonstration caused significant traffic disruption and fostered a tense environment in the area for nearly two hours.
Order was restored after senior district officials, including the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and police representatives, arrived and reassured the crowd that stringent action would be taken. Later, the victim's body was sent for autopsy.
In response to the public disturbance, additional police units have been assigned to the area to ensure safety.
During initial inquiries, Krishna, the friend of Prabhat, informed the police that they had gone out together, and Prabhat had requested to be dropped off near Bakar Gali for personal matters. He was supposed to return shortly for pickup. However, before he could do so, Krishna was informed of Prabhat's condition.
The officer in charge of Bara Bazar police station indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with all angles being investigated. “We are interrogating the friend and gathering evidence. The suspects will be identified and apprehended soon,” he stated.
Family members indicated that Prabhat had returned home on leave and was due to resume his job in another state on Friday. He was the sole provider for the household.
