Hazaribagh, Feb 13 (NationPress) The streets of Hazaribagh were filled with a profound sense of grief and honor on Thursday as thousands gathered to pay their final respects to Captain Karamjit Singh, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector just two days prior.

The 28-year-old hero, who tragically lost his life in an IED blast on the LoC, was honored with full military rites as he was laid to rest, draped in the Tricolour, at Muktidham in Khirgaon, Hazaribagh.

As his funeral procession departed from his home in Jhoolu Park, the city reverberated with chants of ‘Captain Karamjit Amar Rahe’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

Residents filled the streets and rooftops, showering flowers on the convoy as it passed. Many held placards displaying his image, while others proudly waved the National flag in silent salute.

Out of respect, shops along Guru Govind Singh Road closed their doors.

At Muktidham, as Army officers folded the Tricolour and presented it to his mother, Neelu Bakshi, she emotionally proclaimed, ‘Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal!’

His father, Ajninder Singh, with tears in his eyes, lit the funeral pyre, bidding a poignant farewell to the son who had brought them immense pride.

Captain Karamjit was the cherished only child of Ajninder Singh Bakshi, a prominent restaurant and tent house entrepreneur, and Neelu Bakshi in Hazaribagh.

He was on the verge of marrying a fellow Army medical officer on April 5, but destiny had different plans. He had briefly returned home for wedding preparations but dutifully reported back to his post just 10 days ago.

When his fiancée arrived to pay her last respects, the atmosphere was thick with sorrow, as tears flowed at the sight of a love story abruptly interrupted.

On Tuesday, during a patrol along the LoC, Captain Karamjit and his unit encountered an IED explosion set by terrorists. Despite sustaining severe injuries, he was rapidly evacuated to a military hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his wounds.

His remains arrived at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi on Wednesday evening, where Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Jharkhand Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore paid their respects.

From there, he was taken to the Sikh Regiment in Ramgarh, where fellow soldiers honored him with a somber farewell before his final journey home.

As Hazaribagh mourns, India expresses its gratitude. A soldier has fallen, yet his sacrifice will forever resonate in the hearts of the nation.
