Jammu, July 25 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, along with the Army, honored the memory of the Agniveer who tragically lost his life in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

An official statement revealed that L-G Manoj Sinha commemorated Agniveer Lalit Kumar from the 7 Jat Regiment, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who gave his life in the line of duty. My deepest sympathies to his grieving family. The nation stands united with them in this moment of sorrow,” stated the L-G.

The Army's Udhampur headquartered northern command also paid respects to the fallen Agniveer, expressing on their official X handle, “Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander, #NorthernCommand, along with all ranks of #DhruvaCommand, honor the #Braveheart Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”

“DhruvaCommand stands steadfastly with the bereaved family during this challenging time,” they added.

It is important to note that the tragic incident occurred on Friday when an Agniveer was killed and two other soldiers were injured due to a landmine explosion close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

The injured included a junior commissioned officer (JCO). “The explosion transpired near the Victor Post in Salotri village of Poonch’s Haveli tehsil during routine patrolling by the army as part of an anti-infiltration operation,” officials reported.

The Agniveer succumbed to his injuries immediately, while the two injured soldiers were promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment.

“Medical professionals have reported that both injured soldiers are in stable condition,” an official stated.

“The Army has paid tribute to the fallen Agniveer, and a probe has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion,” the official added.

The deceased Agniveer was identified as Lalit Kumar from the Jat Regiment, according to a condolence post on X by the Jammu-based White Knight Corps.

Following the terror attack on April 22 by the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, the armed forces undertook targeted strikes against terror infrastructure deep within Pakistan, destroying nine such facilities in locations like Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In the ensuing escalation, the Indian armed forces inflicted damage on 18 Pakistan Defense bases in response to attacks on civilian and military targets in India.

Vigilance remains exceptionally high along the 740-km LoC and the 240-km international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces and the J&K Police are conducting rigorous anti-terror operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in the Union Territory.

L-G Sinha has been leading regular security review meetings to assess achievements and formulate new strategies to counter the malicious designs of terrorists supported by Pakistan.
