New Delhi, Nov 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on his recent trip to Bhutan, emphasizing the heartfelt appreciation shown by the Bhutanese for India's gesture of sending sacred Buddha relics to their nation—a moment of immense pride for him. During the 128th episode of his monthly radio show 'Mann Ki Baat', he remarked, "A few weeks ago, I had the privilege to visit Bhutan. Such journeys foster diverse interactions and exchanges. I met with the King of Bhutan, his father, who has also served as King, the Prime Minister, and others. Throughout my visit, I heard a common sentiment; everyone was expressing their gratitude towards Indians for sending the Buddhist relics... the sacred relics of Bhagwan Buddha. Each time I heard this, my heart swelled with pride."
PM Modi's visit to Bhutan took place from November 11 to 12, where he accompanied King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk in seeking blessings from the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, receiving a warm welcome from local monks at Tashichhodzong in Thimphu.
The relics were sent for public display as a special token from the people of India to Bhutan to celebrate the Fourth King's 70th birthday and the Global Peace Prayer Festival organized by the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Buddhism is a shared cultural inheritance between India and Bhutan. Numerous Bhutanese pilgrims frequently travel to iconic Buddhist sites in India including Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Sikkim, Udayagiri, Sarnath, and others.
The Prime Minister noted that a similar enthusiasm for the sacred relics of Bhagwan Buddha has been observed globally.
"Just last month, these sacred relics were transported from the National Museum to Kalmykia, Russia. Buddhism carries profound importance there. I learned that many individuals, including those from distant regions of Russia, came to see them. The relics have also been showcased in Mongolia, Vietnam, and Thailand, where significant excitement has been noted. The King of Thailand even visited to have Darshan," he stated.
"It is truly heartwarming to witness such a profound connection to the sacred relics of Bhagwan Buddha worldwide. It brings joy to see how these initiatives serve as a medium to unite people across the globe," PM Modi further expressed.
