New Delhi, Nov 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his enthusiasm on Sunday regarding India's vast potential to become a premier destination for winter tourism, encouraging travelers to consider the Himalayas for their next getaway.
During the 128th episode of his monthly radio show 'Mann Ki Baat', he stated, "As winter sets in, so does the opportunity for winter tourism. Numerous nations have successfully integrated winter tourism into their economies, hosting world-renowned winter festivals and sports. Activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snow trekking, and ice climbing have become synonymous with their identities, drawing global audiences to their winter celebrations."
Emphasizing that India has all the resources to develop a robust winter tourism framework, the Prime Minister remarked, "We have breathtaking mountains, rich culture, and limitless adventure opportunities. It brings me great joy to see winter tourism in Uttarakhand attracting a growing number of visitors. Popular spots such as Auli, Munsyari, Chopta, and Deyara are witnessing a surge in popularity this winter season."
He also mentioned the state's inaugural High Altitude Ultra Run Marathon, which took place at Adi Kailash in the district of Pithoragarh on November 2, reaching over 14,500 feet in elevation.
"The event saw participation from over 750 athletes representing 18 states. The challenging 60-kilometer 'Adi Kailash Parikrama Run' commenced at 5 a.m. amidst frigid temperatures. The spirit of the participants was remarkable, with the number of tourists visiting Adi Kailash increasing from fewer than 2,000 three years ago to over 30,000 today," said PM Modi.
He added that Uttarakhand is set to host the Winter Games in the upcoming weeks, attracting athletes and adventure enthusiasts from across the nation.
"Preparations for various snow sports, including skiing and snowboarding, are already underway. The state is also enhancing connectivity and infrastructure to bolster winter tourism, along with a new policy promoting homestays," he noted.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister discussed the rising trend of 'Wed in India' during winter.
"Whether under the warm winter sun or surrounded by a misty mountain backdrop, the hills are becoming increasingly popular for destination weddings. Many couples are now choosing to marry along the banks of Ganga ji," he added.
Encouraging travelers to opt for mountain destinations this season, he said, "In the winter months, the Himalayan valleys offer an unforgettable experience. If you're planning a trip this winter, make sure to consider the beauty of the Himalayan landscapes."
