Jaipur, April 9 (NationPress) With temperatures soaring significantly across various regions of Rajasthan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in 20 districts on Wednesday.
The yellow alert has been activated in the districts of Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Churu, Nagaur, Sikar, Alwar, Jaipur, Pali, Dausa, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Baran, Kota, Bundi, and Jhalawar, while an orange alert has been declared for Sri Ganganagar and Jhunjhunu.
As per the Meteorological Centre, a new western disturbance is anticipated to affect the state starting April 10. This system is likely to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of 30-40 km/h, coupled with light rainfall in several areas.
This will likely lead to a dip of 2-3 degrees in temperature, providing temporary respite from the sweltering heat. A yellow alert for thunderstorm activity has also been issued for the impacted districts over the next two days.
On Tuesday, 13 cities experienced heatwave conditions, prompting the IMD to issue a red alert for Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Barmer, and Jaisalmer, while orange alerts were in place for Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures have been exceptionally high, with Barmer recording the peak temperature at 46.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Jaisalmer at 45 degrees.
Barmer also recorded the warmest night, with a minimum temperature of 31.5 degrees, nearly matching typical daytime temperatures in hill areas. Currently, numerous regions in Rajasthan, such as Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Kota, and Churu, are grappling with extreme heat, with maximum temperatures fluctuating between 44 and 46 degrees. In many other locales across the state, temperatures are lingering between 42 and 44 degrees, which is 3 to 8 degrees above the seasonal average. The highest temperature recorded was in Barmer at 46.4 degrees Celsius, highlighting the intensity of the current heatwave.
The severe heatwave and warm nights are projected to continue for the following 48 hours. Nevertheless, some relief may be on the horizon due to the new western disturbance, anticipated to influence parts of Rajasthan in the next couple of days.
In light of the ongoing heatwave, individuals are urged to remain hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and stay updated through official weather reports.
