Chennai, June 9 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated locations throughout various regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the coming days, while many interior districts continue to experience above-normal temperatures.
The RMC indicates that districts such as Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore are expected to see heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Puducherry is also forecasted to receive isolated heavy showers during this timeframe.
On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district is expected to experience significant rainfall, while The Nilgiris, the ghat areas of Coimbatore, and Ariyalur may see intense showers on Wednesday. From Thursday through Saturday, areas like The Nilgiris, Theni, Tenkasi, and the ghat regions of Coimbatore are likely to encounter heavy rainfall at isolated spots. Additionally, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, and Kanniyakumari may also receive substantial showers on Friday and Saturday.
This rainfall activity is linked to an upper air cyclonic circulation lingering over the southeast and adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal, alongside moderate westerly and south-westerly winds in the lower troposphere.
In Chennai, light to moderate rain is anticipated on Monday, with maximum temperatures projected around 38 degrees Celsius and minimums between 28 degrees and 29 degrees.
Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to persist until Tuesday, although a slight reduction in temperatures is expected midweek.
The RMC has issued a general forecast for light to moderate rainfall at several locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until June 14. However, daytime temperatures are anticipated to remain 2-3 degrees above normal in some areas, leading to discomfort and heat stress.
In recent days, various districts have reported maximum temperatures ranging from 2-4 degrees above average.
On Sunday, Puducherry recorded a high of 40 degrees, followed by Erode and Madurai Airport at 39.6 degrees, Vellore at 39.4 degrees, Palayamkottai at 39.2 degrees, and Karur Paramathi at 39 degrees.
