Chennai, July 22 (NationPress) Intense rainfall is set to impact the Nilgiris district and the Ghat regions of Coimbatore, as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicts significant rain activity in isolated areas on Tuesday.

This alert comes amid ongoing changes in weather patterns across Tamil Nadu, influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation situated over the Bay of Bengal.

The RMC reports that this cyclonic system is located over southern Odisha, extending to a height of 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting southeastward. Initially, it spanned from southern Odisha to northern coastal Andhra Pradesh, now affecting extensive weather conditions in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In Chennai, a noticeable drop in temperature was observed following widespread drizzle and cloudy skies on Monday.

Nungambakkam recorded a high of 31.3 degrees Celsius, which is a 4.2-degree dip from the average, while Meenambakkam noted 31.7 degrees, deviating by 3.9 degrees from typical highs.

The weather service anticipates partly cloudy skies in Chennai on Tuesday, with light rain expected in certain areas of the city and its suburbs.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted in various locations throughout Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph in some regions.

The forecast suggests light to moderate rain could occur at isolated spots across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until July 27.

Daytime temperatures in Chennai are expected to range from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will hover around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius over the next five days.

On Monday, Thanjavur experienced the highest maximum temperature in the state at 38 degrees Celsius, whereas Karur Paramathi recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 21 degrees Celsius among the plains.
