Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 25 (NationPress) - The Kerala Meteorological Department has revised its weather warnings as persistent heavy rainfall affects the state. An Orange alert has been issued for Idukki and Pathanamthitta, while Yellow alerts are in effect for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad.

The forecast predicts continued rainfall in the upcoming days, with isolated intense showers expected across various districts.

The Orange alert indicates a need for heightened caution among residents, particularly in vulnerable areas susceptible to landslides and flooding.

Meteorologists are also warning of strong winds accompanying the rains, with gusts anticipated to reach 30–40 km/h in some areas.

Heavy rainfall totals could range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours, leading to potential localised flooding and waterlogging in low-lying regions.

The Met Department has pointed out the presence of a low-pressure system over the northern Bay of Bengal and nearby regions, expected to weaken in the next 12 hours.

Despite this, widespread rainfall is likely to persist, signaling the conclusion of the southwest monsoon season.

Intense rain events are predicted that may disrupt daily life in affected areas.

In response to the adverse conditions, authorities have released a strict advisory for fishermen along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.

Fishing operations are prohibited from September 25 to 27 to ensure the safety of crews at sea.

These measures are deemed crucial due to the combination of strong winds and rough sea conditions.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official weather reports, avoid travel in affected zones, and heed local administrative guidance.

Precautionary measures are especially vital for coastal communities, hilly regions, and areas prone to flooding to mitigate risks during this period of intense rainfall.
