Himachal College Renamed in Honor of Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh

Shimla, Nov 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced on Saturday that the Government College Seema located in Rohru of Shimla district will be renamed in memory of the late Virbhadra Singh, who served as Chief Minister six times.
Additionally, he revealed plans to introduce a B.Ed course at the college starting from the next academic year and committed to providing financial support for the construction of a hostel.
During his tour of the Rohru Assembly constituency, Sukhu unveiled development initiatives totaling Rs 100.95 crore. This includes an ultra-modern grading facility and a state-of-the-art cold storage unit with a capacity increase from 700 metric tonnes (MT) to 2,031 MT, aimed at benefiting local horticulturists.
He also inaugurated the Government Ayurvedic Hospital, built at a cost of Rs 2.79 crore, along with the completion of the Chunjar-Katlah, Shalan, Melthi-Kupri water supply scheme costing Rs 3.92 crore, and a drinking water project for the rural areas of Rohru amounting to Rs 5.03 crore.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation for road projects worth Rs 51.74 crore, which include the strengthening of the Podhar-Mandiyori-Karasa road, Seema-Ratnari road, Samoli-Parsa road, Rohru-Arhal-Bashla road, and Mehandli Ganasidhar road.
He also initiated the foundation stone laying for a hostel at Seema College Rohru, which is estimated to cost Rs 8.25 crore.
While addressing attendees at the college’s annual function, Sukhu reiterated his pledge to assist financially with the hostel's construction and mentioned that a multipurpose building would be built at the college shortly.
He criticized the previous BJP government for the decline in educational standards, stating that they established 900 educational and health institutions without sufficient budget allocation purely for electoral benefits.
The current state government is taking steps that prioritize public interest, and the positive impacts will become evident soon.
Sukhu also announced that new vocational courses will be introduced to enhance educational quality and provide better job prospects for students.
The Education Minister, Rohit Thakur, affirmed that efforts are underway to strengthen the education sector, with 15,000 positions of various categories approved in the Education Department to ensure quality education.
He further highlighted that the previous BJP administration made no recruitments or promotions, contrasting it with the current proactive approach.
