Shimla, Oct 18 (NationPress) In a significant move, the Himachal Pradesh government has commenced the procurement of naturally grown barley within the Pangi subdivision of Chamba district.
On Saturday, a government spokesman announced that they have successfully procured 140 quintals of naturally grown barley at Rs 60 per kg from 59 farmers to date.
The procurement included 20 quintals from 11 farmers of gram panchayat Hudaan, 78 quintals from 24 farmers of gram panchayat Suraal, 9 quintals from 7 farmers of gram panchayat Killar, 10 quintals from 7 farmers of gram panchayat Saach, and 23 quintals from 10 farmers of Sechu gram panchayat.
The spokesperson emphasized that the government is actively promoting natural farming to ensure chemical-free products for consumers and is providing a support price for crops grown through natural methods. This initiative is aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt natural farming practices to enhance their economic stability.
With approximately 90 percent of the state's population residing in rural areas, the government is implementing policies to bolster the economy of these communities.
During the Himachal Day celebration in Pangi, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu proclaimed Pangi as the first subdivision in the state dedicated to natural farming, inspiring farmers to cultivate natural crops.
The government anticipates procuring 2,371.71 quintals of maize from 1,473 farmers this kharif season, with plans to establish 28 collection centres statewide.
