Hindu Leaders Call for Rahul Gandhi to Apologize for Dronacharya-Eklavya Comments

New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) In a recent statement, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, drew parallels between the actions of the BJP-led government and the tale of Dronacharya and Eklavya. This has sparked outrage among various religious figures, who have branded Gandhi as 'Rashtra Virodhi' (anti-national) and 'Hindu Virodhi' (anti-Hindu).
On Saturday, Gandhi asserted that the Modi administration was "cutting off the thumb of the nation's youth," referencing the narrative where Dronacharya is said to have severed Eklavya's thumb. His comments have faced significant backlash from numerous religious leaders, who are now demanding a formal apology from him.
Mahamandaleshwar Rupendra Prakash Maharaj of Shri Panchayati Akhara Bada Udasin criticized Gandhi's statement, indicating that it misrepresents the historical and cultural importance of the Eklavya narrative.
He explained, “Rahul Gandhi has twisted the facts surrounding this tale. In the Mahabharata, Eklavya offers his thumb to Dronacharya as Guru Dakshina, symbolizing respect and devotion, rather than an act of injustice. This incident showcases the greatness of the Guru-Shishya tradition, rather than representing any form of oppression.”
Maharaj also accused Gandhi of consistently attacking Hindu society while refusing to address Islam, suggesting that he is hesitant to criticize the Muslim community due to fear of repercussions.
“His remarks about the Eklavya story are a blatant assault on Sanatan Dharma and an affront to its symbols and values,” he added.
“Rahul Gandhi must publicly apologize and comprehend the true essence of the Mahabharata and Ramayana before making such statements. He should delve into these texts to appreciate the significance of the Guru-Shishya relationship.”
Other religious figures have also expressed their disapproval.
Kamal Nayan Das labeled Gandhi as 'a fool' for his misunderstanding of the Eklavya story, categorizing him as both 'Hindu Virodhi' and 'Rashtra Virodhi'. Das called for strict measures against Gandhi for his comments.
Raju Das, another religious leader, condemned Rahul Gandhi for insulting Sanatan Dharma in Parliament and for attempting to tarnish the reputations of both Dronacharya and Eklavya.
He highlighted the historical and cultural importance of Eklavya’s dedication and respect towards his guru, stating, "Rahul Gandhi’s remarks reflect his ignorance about our culture and history. Eklavya was a virtuous figure, and his loyalty to his guru is a proud exemplar of our tradition."
The controversy surrounding Gandhi’s remarks continues to intensify as religious leaders and political figures discuss the ramifications of his statements, with growing calls for an apology and a more educated discourse regarding India's cultural and religious heritage.
