Rahul Gandhi Denounces BJP's Claims as Congress MPs Face Barricades at Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) Amidst a series of allegations and counter-allegations regarding a confrontation outside the Parliament, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on Thursday categorically dismissed the BJP's assertions that Congress MPs instigated a disturbance. Instead, he attributed the blame to the 'anti-Ambedkar' BJP for the chaotic incident near Makar Dwaar, the principal entrance of the complex.
While addressing the press at the Congress headquarters, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that Congress was conducting a peaceful protest in response to Amit Shah’s derogatory comments about Babasaheb Ambedkar. He accused BJP members, who were armed with sticks, of inciting disorder by intimidating him and other MPs from the INDIA bloc.
“We were obstructed on the steps of Parliament by the stick-wielding BJP lawmakers. We continue to await Amit Shah’s resignation over the insult directed at the Dalit icon,” he stated, labeling the BJP as 'anti-constitutional, anti-Ambedkar.'
He further claimed that the BJP government was deliberately trying to divert attention from pressing issues, accusing it of using overt tactics to diminish the legacy of Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution. He noted that Amit Shah’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha reflected the government’s intentions and motives.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also held the BJP accountable for the escalating controversy, which resulted in injuries to two of its MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. He described it as a 'well-crafted drama' by the ruling party as part of its damage-control efforts.
Kharge elaborated on the events leading to the confrontation outside Parliament, stating, “Since yesterday, we have been demanding either Amit Shah’s resignation or his dismissal by the Prime Minister. With no action taken, our MPs assembled outside Parliament to protest.”
“We commenced our march from the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar towards Makar Dwaar. They halted us from entering the House. We aimed to enter, but they forcibly blocked us. Even women MPs faced obstruction and violence,” he charged directly at the BJP.
He refuted the BJP MPs’ claims of being shoved by Congress members, recounting that he himself was pushed, which caused him to fall and injure his knees.
Referencing Amit Shah’s comment about Ambedkar, he pledged to initiate a protest against the ruling party’s attempts to 'erode' the contributions of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
