Bhopal, Oct 25 (NationPress) In a powerful video statement shared on his X account, BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma has launched a vehement response regarding the alleged molestation of two Australian women cricketers in Indore, asserting that the primary suspect, Aqueel Khan, “will face consequences that will make even his ancestors tremble, leaving future generations terrified to step outside.”
The incident took place on Thursday while the cricketers were walking from their hotel to a nearby café, and it has sparked significant outrage in both political and sports communities.
As per police reports, the two international female cricketers were in Indore for the World Cup Cricket Tournament when a man on a motorcycle harassed them both verbally and physically before fleeing the scene.
The distressed players activated an SOS alert at their hotel, leading team security, including Australian official Danny Simmons, to promptly notify local law enforcement.
In his video address, Sharma stated, “That criminal Aqueel has been apprehended. He was brutally beaten and is now behind bars.”
Sharma emphasized that “action is being taken in strict accordance with the laws established by Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Constitution.”
He further accused Khan of orchestrating a “conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of Indore,” a city renowned for its cleanliness and cultural values.
“I have clearly informed the so-called Muslim intellectuals that Indore was historically respected for its dignity. Today, Aqueel has sullied that image,” Sharma remarked, announcing that measures under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) would be enforced.
“If deemed necessary, we will organize a public shaming procession,” he added.
Authorities quickly identified and arrested 28-year-old Aqueel Khan on Friday, while the search for a second suspect remains ongoing.
Sharma drew a parallel to a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh involving misconduct by a school principal, condemning any attempts to trivialize such serious offenses.
“In a similar case, the principal not only molested a minor but also attempted to make light of rape-like incidents,” he expressed.
“It is crucial to understand: whether the girl is Hindu or Muslim, from Australia or England, India has always committed to ensuring the dignity and safety of every daughter—and it will continue to do so.”
The Australian team management acknowledged awareness of the incident but chose to refrain from detailed comments, emphasizing player welfare.
Sources suggest that Cricket Australia is collaborating with local organizers to enhance security measures for the entirety of the Women’s World Cup.
