In his statement, the Chief Minister expressed that this milestone stands as a proud moment for both the nation and Madhya Pradesh.
“The esteemed Padma Shri and Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award recipient, our own Satendra Singh Lohiya, has made history by crossing the challenging Cook Strait,” Yadav shared on X.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to him for this extraordinary achievement. This is a moment of pride for our nation and state, demonstrating his unyielding spirit and determination, which will undoubtedly inspire future generations,” he continued.
The 38-year-old swimmer, who faces limited mobility in both legs, has reached several significant milestones in his career. Notably, he completed a 33-km swim circuit in Mumbai in just 5 hours and 42 minutes.
Residing in Gata village of Bhind district in the Gwalior-Chambal division of Madhya Pradesh, Lohiya previously made headlines in 2018 by swimming across the 36-km English Channel as part of a team. In 2019, he accomplished the Catalina Channel in the United States.
He completed the English Channel in a time of 12 hours and 26 minutes. For his exceptional achievements, Lohiya was honored with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2020, being the first para-athlete to receive this prestigious accolade.
In 2014, he received the Vikram Award, the highest state-level sports honor in Madhya Pradesh.
In 2021, he was awarded the National Award for Best Sportsperson. His contributions to sports were further acknowledged when he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2024.
