Shimla, Jan 7 (NationPress) Retired personnel of the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) have taken to the streets to voice their concerns regarding delayed pension payments. They are urging the state government to address the issues and restore their old-age pensions and medical allowances without further delay.
A group of retirees, frustrated by the late pension disbursements, protested against the state administration while questioning the reasons for these significant delays.
The retired HRTC employees held a demonstration outside the old bus stand complex in Una, chanting slogans against the unfair treatment they have received.
The pensioners expressed that the government should prioritize providing them with a regular and dignified pension during this vulnerable phase of their lives, instead of forcing them to fight for their rights.
They claimed that the government is releasing pensions in installments, segregating them by age groups, which has resulted in inequity and confusion.
“Currently, pensioners aged over 75, 65, 63, and 58 receive their pensions at different times. This system causes not only financial hardship but also significant mental stress for the elderly,” stated one of the senior citizens.
Naresh Sharma, a representative of the HRTC retirees' welfare organization, criticized this policy, stating it is unfortunate that the elderly must protest in harsh weather conditions and demanded a uniform and lump-sum pension for all.
They also mentioned being deprived of a 3 percent dearness allowance (DA) installment.
An elderly Naresh Sharma remarked, "All pensioners are compelled to gather here in this freezing cold. We are not receiving our pensions on time. Last month’s payments were made in four installments. All employees should receive their pensions in a single payment. Other employees have been granted a 3 percent dearness allowance (DA), but we have been denied. Medical expenses are also not reimbursed post-retirement. If the government disbursed pensions timely, we wouldn’t need to form organizations or hold protests."
