Srinagar, April 8 (NationPress) On Tuesday, three additional organizations declared their separation from the separatist Hurriyat Conference and affirmed their commitment to the Constitution of the nation.

During his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on X, “The organizations Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front have distanced themselves from the Hurriyat. This is a significant demonstration of the people's faith in the Constitution of India within the valley.”

He added, “Today, Modi Ji's vision of a united and strong Bharat is even more reinforced, as 11 organizations have renounced separatism, publicly expressing their unwavering support for it.”

Unlike previous instances when the populace would observe protest shutdowns following calls from the Hurriyat during Central ministers' visits, this time, various separatist factions are leaving the conglomerate and pledging allegiance to the Constitution during Amit Shah's visit to the valley.

Two other organizations, J&K Peoples Democratic Movement (JKPDM) and J&K Peoples Movement (JKPM), have previously dissociated from the separatist Hurriyat Conference and affirmed their allegiance to the nation's Constitution.

Established in 1993 to ostensibly represent the political voice of armed insurgency, the Hurriyat Conference originally comprised 26 social, religious, and political groups.

Notably, even the association of government employees and the J&K High Court Bar Association were previously members of the Hurriyat Conference.

The Hurriyat Conference split into two factions in 2003: one led by hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the other by moderate leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. It became inactive following the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

Since the abrogation of Article 370, all activities associated with the Hurriyat Conference, including organizing anti-India protests, stone-pelting on security forces, and declaring protest shutdowns during visits of national figures, have ceased.

Stone-pelting was a significant law and order issue in Kashmir; however, since August 5, 2019, there has not been a single occurrence of stone-pelting in the region.
