Hyderabad, June 21 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has formally presented a proposal regarding the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II-B to the Central Government on Saturday.

This proposal includes all necessary documents and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), as confirmed by Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML).

Earlier approved by the state government, Phase II-B encompasses a total distance of 86.1 kilometers and is projected to require an investment of Rs 19,579 crore.

The project features three major corridors: from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to Bharat Future City (39.6 km; Rs 7,168 crore); Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal (24.5 km; Rs 6,946 crore); and JBS to Shamirpet (22 km; Rs 5,465 crore).

Similar to the previously submitted Phase II-A project, which comprises five corridors (76.4 km), the Phase II-B initiative is also intended to be executed as a joint venture between the Central Government and the Telangana Government.

According to the joint venture norms set by the central government, the total cost of Rs 19,579 crore for Phase II-B will be shared as follows: Telangana will contribute Rs 5,874 crore (30%), the Centre will provide Rs 3,524 crore (18%), international financial institutions will cover Rs 9,398 crore (48%), and a minor PPP component will account for Rs 783 crore (4%).

Previously, the state government approved the HMR Phase II-A, which consists of five corridors spanning 76.4 km at an anticipated cost of Rs 24,269 crore and has forwarded this proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

During a meeting with Union Minister for Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in Delhi on June 19, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged for prompt approvals for Phase-II-A.

He emphasized to the Union Minister the critical need for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project, which aims to address the increasing public transportation demands in the rapidly growing city.

Once completed, the Metro Phase-II will facilitate smooth commuting by alleviating road congestion and significantly promoting sustainable development, as stated by Revanth.

The Chief Minister also informed the Union Minister of the state government's willingness to implement the Rs 24,269 crore project as a joint venture with the Union government, proposing a public-private partnership supported by funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and other financial institutions.

The initial Phase I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, covering three corridors over 69.2 km, was constructed and inaugurated at an estimated cost of Rs 22,000 crore and is recognized as the world’s largest metro rail project under the PPP model.
