Hyderabad, Oct 7 (NationPress) The Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, V. C. Sajjanar, issued a stern warning on Tuesday regarding the use of mobile phones while driving, stating that strict measures will be enforced against offenders.

Using the platform 'X', the city police chief highlighted the alarming trend of drivers, including auto-rickshaw and taxi operators, who are frequently seen watching videos or using earphones while behind the wheel. He emphasized that such actions are dangerous and constitute a punishable offense. The Hyderabad Traffic Police will take decisive action against these violators, as he posted.

“The safety of oneself, passengers, and fellow road users is of utmost importance. No distraction is worth a life - remain focused, remain safe,” he asserted.

Sajjanar, having assumed his role as Police Commissioner just last week, has already adopted a stringent approach towards drunk driving incidents.

In the past week, police have increased operations targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol.

Upon assuming office, Sajjanar referred to drunk drivers as “road terrorists”, indicating they pose significant threats to themselves and others.

“When driving under the influence, they are oblivious to whether they could harm someone or themselves. They resemble suicide bombers, risking the lives of one, two, or more individuals once they hit the roads,” Sajjanar stated.

The police chief expressed sorrow over families who have lost loved ones due to such reckless conduct. He noted that teams are already addressing traffic violations and stated that their presence would be expanded if necessary.

Sajjanar declared traffic management as a priority, stating that with numerous new vehicles added annually, congestion is worsening, affecting both time and health.

Previously, while serving as Police Commissioner of Cyberabad, Sajjanar remarked that individuals driving under the influence of alcohol are akin to terrorists who indiscriminately endanger innocent lives on the roads.

“Contrary to popular belief, most drunk drivers are well-educated, employed individuals. Shockingly, many have lived in major cities like New York, Melbourne, Singapore, and Dubai, where they would never contemplate violating traffic rules. Yet, in their home state, they engage in these dangerous behaviors, risking their own safety and that of innocent road users,” he noted.
