Patna, Oct 7 (NationPress) Renowned folk artist Maithili Thakur is poised to run for the Bihar Assembly elections next month in her native district, Darbhanga, representing the BJP.
In a statement to the press, Thakur shared that she had recently conferred with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and senior BJP figure Vinod Tawde to deliberate on various developmental issues affecting Bihar.
"We have engaged in discussions with Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawde regarding several concerns related to Bihar's progress. While we are actively considering this, no formal announcement has been made yet," Thakur remarked.
Expressing her ambition to enter the political arena, she stated, "I aspire to contest the election from my birthplace as I hold a strong connection to it."
When pressed about her political inclinations, Thakur refrained from giving a direct response, emphasizing, "The primary objective is the advancement of the state and the nation, and I wish to lend my efforts towards that goal."
She has previously maintained close ties with the BJP and the NDA.
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, she contributed her voice to a campaign anthem showcasing the NDA government's developmental initiatives, which was seen as a response to Neha Singh Rathore's viral song 'Bihar Me Ka Ba.'
Historically, the BJP has nominated several notable personalities and celebrities as candidates.
In the last elections, it awarded a ticket to international shooter Shreyasi Singh from Jamui, who successfully won her seat.
Thakur is well-regarded in the Mithilanchal region, encompassing Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, and adjacent districts.
The seat-sharing arrangement within the NDA coalition in Bihar is still pending finalization, and the candidate list has yet to be published. Hence, it will be intriguing to see which constituencies the alliance partners will vie for and if Maithili Thakur will secure a nomination from Darbhanga.
Bihar is set to hold elections in two phases on November 6 and 11, with the results scheduled for announcement on November 14.
