New Delhi, Aug 14 (NationPress) To garner public backing against alleged efforts to “steal votes” and weaken democratic frameworks, Lok Sabha's Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will co-lead the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' throughout Bihar.
This initiative was revealed by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal via social media platform X, emphasizing the campaign's goal to uphold the Constitution, protect democratic privileges, and guarantee free and fair elections.
The Yatra is set to kick off with a grand rally in Sasaram on August 17, before making its way through critical districts such as Gaya, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Darbhanga, and Pashchim Champaran, culminating in Arrah on August 30, he stated.
As per Venugopal, the final phase will conclude with a significant Voter Adhikar Rally in Patna on September 1, where the opposition coalition, dubbed Mahagathbandhan, aims to send a “clear message” against those they label “vote chors”.
This is a battle to “save our vote, our Constitution, and our democracy,” Venugopal articulated in his statement.
He further remarked, “Those who have schemed to dismantle our hard-earned democratic system will face the people's wrath,” asserting that, “We will relentlessly strive to ensure that power rests with the common citizens and is not seized by divisive forces, cronies, or the influential.”
The campaign aims to unite leaders and supporters from the Congress, RJD, and other Mahagathbandhan allies, focusing on grassroots mobilization ahead of the forthcoming Bihar elections.
Political analysts perceive the Yatra as both a symbolic and tactical maneuver to strengthen the opposition's foothold in Bihar, where the BJP-led NDA currently holds considerable power.
This Yatra aims to generate momentum for the opposition in the election-ready state, following Rahul Gandhi's press conference on August 7, where he attempted to expose alleged 'voter fraud'.
Despite the Election Commission's rebuttal of these claims, the opposition continues to target both it and the BJP.
With Bihar's political climate heating up, the Voter Adhikar Yatra is anticipated to set the stage for an intense political season, as the opposition frames the upcoming Bihar election as a “decisive battle” for India’s democratic essence.
