Patna, Aug 17 (NationPress) The ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, commenced from Sasaram on Sunday with a massive rally at the Airport Ground.
The event featured senior leaders such as RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rabri Devi, CPI-ML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, Bhupesh Baghel, and VIP chief Mukesh Sahani.
During the yatra's launch, Lalu Prasad Yadav addressed the audience with his iconic phrase, “Lagal Lagal Jhulania Me Dhakka Balam Kalkata Chale,” expressing gratitude to Rahul Gandhi, Kharge, and other leaders of the INDIA bloc for their backing.
In his speech, Rahul Gandhi fiercely criticized the BJP, accusing it of undermining democracy. He stated, “BJP is not in power through democracy but through the robbery of elections. Whether it’s the Lok Sabha or the Assembly, the BJP is winning by stealing votes. This same conspiracy is unfolding in Bihar through Special Intensive Revision (SIR). We will not allow this to succeed.”
Rahul highlighted instances where he claimed that in Maharashtra, one crore new voters were suddenly added to the list just four months before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, assisting the BJP in gaining power. He also mentioned that in Karnataka, approximately one lakh votes were stolen in a single Assembly segment of a Lok Sabha seat, contributing to the BJP's victory.
“This is a direct attack on democracy,” he warned the attendees.
Rahul assured the crowd that the Mahagathbandhan would fight back against any such conspiracies, stating, “This is Bihar. The people here understand the power of their vote. If democracy is threatened, Biharis will be the first to stand against it.”
Tejashwi Yadav echoed these sentiments, claiming that the Election Commission is colluding with the BJP. “This isn’t merely theft of your vote; it’s outright robbery. Modi aims to deceive Biharis. However, in Bihar, people are wise to fight back against dishonesty,” he declared, inciting enthusiastic cheers.
The launch of the yatra has intensified the political climate in Bihar as the Assembly elections approach.
Throughout the next 16 days, the campaign is set to cover 25 districts, culminating in a significant rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on September 1.
