New Delhi, Aug 30 (NationPress) Senior JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi launched a scathing critique of the RJD and its leadership on Saturday, labeling their involvement in the ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, spearheaded by Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, as a “historic blunder”.

Tyagi told IANS, “The Congress has taken charge, which is their objective, and the RJD appears to be oblivious. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, never prioritized Congress above himself for personal gains in Uttar Pradesh. Lalu Yadav and his son are committing significant errors in judgment.”

The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', which entered Saran on Saturday, is promoted by the Congress and the INDIA Bloc as a movement to “protect voting rights and save democracy.” This campaign has seen widespread participation and numerous public rallies across several districts in Bihar.

On the same day, Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, joined the march in Saran alongside Tejashwi Yadav and Mukesh Sahani, showcasing unity among the Opposition.

However, the BJP has retaliated forcefully. Union Home Minister Amit Shah branded it as a “Ghuspaithiye Bachao Yatra”, accusing the campaign of protecting infiltrators rather than democracy. Tyagi seemed to confirm some of those concerns.

“There are reports of duplicated names in the voter lists, and allegations have surfaced that voters from neighboring countries are included in the rolls,” Tyagi stated, adding, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah is highlighting that issue.”

In response to another incident during the yatra where supporters of the Congress and RJD were recorded using abusive language towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tyagi voiced serious concern over the decline in political discourse.

“This language is not representative of democracy. For the first time in 75 years of parliamentary democracy, we are witnessing this,” he asserted, condemning the usage of derogatory slogans.

The ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', initiated by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, has taken on greater political significance as leaders from various Opposition parties join in the 16-day roadshow in Bihar, which commenced on August 17.

Saturday marked a politically dynamic day in Bihar as the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' made its way into Saran district on its 14th day, attracting massive crowds, enthusiastic chants, and a festive reception that transformed the yatra into a show of strength for the Opposition.

Point of View

The ongoing political discourse surrounding the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' illustrates the complexities within Indian democracy. While Tyagi's warnings highlight significant concerns regarding voting rights and electoral integrity, the participation of opposition leaders showcases the ongoing battle for public support. It's essential to navigate these discussions with a focus on constructive dialogue rather than divisive rhetoric.
