Patna, Aug 18 (NationPress) The Voter Adhikar Yatra, spearheaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, has made its way into Gaya district on the second day of this significant journey.
Commencing from Sasaram on Sunday, the yatra reached Aurangabad by evening, where both leaders addressed a large public assembly before pausing for the night.
On Monday morning, Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav resumed their trek after paying respect at the renowned Sun Temple in Aurangabad's Dev block.
Following their prayers to the Sun God, the leaders proceeded towards Gaya.
They were joined by Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani and Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram.
While walking alongside supporters for part of the journey, the leaders traveled a majority of the distance in an open SUV, enthusiastically waving to the crowds gathered along their route.
On this second day, Tejashwi Yadav emphasized that the purpose of the Voter Adhikar Yatra is to defend the democratic rights of the people.
“The Voter Rights Yatra is about safeguarding the right to vote! This initiative aims to protect the interests of the people of Bihar, focusing on jobs, reservations, and development,” Tejashwi stated in a social media post.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra showed her support through a social media post, sharing a video of the yatra.
She remarked, “The most critical right that citizens possess in a democracy is the 'right to vote', which allows the populace to elect their government. This implies that in a democracy, the people hold the power. However, this fundamental right is presently being compromised through vote theft. The 'Voter Rights Yatra' is a crusade to safeguard the voting rights of the populace. This battle will continue until the theft of votes ceases.”
From Gaya, the leaders plan to head to Nawada, where they will conduct a public meeting and spend the night. The journey is set to continue from Nawada on Tuesday.
The yatra seeks to raise awareness about alleged discrepancies in Bihar's voter list and garner public support ahead of the assembly elections.
