Patna, Aug 16 (NationPress) Intensifying its campaign against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, the Congress party is ready to kick off its 16-day ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ from Sasaram, with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi at the helm.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera emphasized that this foot march, reminiscent of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, aims to enlighten and prepare the electorate in upcoming elections to be wary of potential instances of ‘vote chori’ (vote-stealing).
During a press briefing on Saturday, Khera criticized both the BJP and the Election Commission for purportedly collaborating in the fraudulent manipulation of the electoral rolls, asserting that the Congress is committed to ensuring integrity and transparency in the electoral process.
“This upcoming journey, commencing in Bihar on August 17, is designed to awaken the populace because those who plot will not relent; they will attempt to pilfer votes. This is about fighting for the principle of ‘one person, one vote’,” Khera stated.
Khera, who chairs the AICC Media and Publicity Department, took to social media to allege vote rigging ahead of the Bihar elections. He praised Rahul Gandhi for being an advocate for every voter’s rights and asserted that the yatra aims to secure the right for everyone to cast their vote.
“Living freely in an independent India is possible because we possess the power of the vote. Rahul Gandhi has initiated a movement so that every citizen can enjoy their freedom. As the BJP has been caught manipulating the electoral process, ordinary citizens are now providing evidence of electoral malpractice,” he remarked in a post.
He also shared that the 16-day Voter Rights Yatra will kick off from Sasaram, covering 1,300 kilometers and culminating in a grand rally in Patna on September 1.
The senior Congress leader further accused the Election Commission of inconsistency and called on citizens to join the movement for their rights.
“Every time Rahul Gandhi embarks on a journey, it marks a pivotal moment for our democracy. The ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ promises to be a historic expedition, serving as a landmark in our collective fight for existence,” he concluded.
