Hyderabad, Aug 18 (NationPress) The number of fatalities resulting from electrocution during the Sri Krishna Shobha Yatra in Hyderabad has tragically increased to six, following the death of one of the injured at a hospital on Monday.
This unfortunate event took place at Gokulnagar in Ramanthapur around midnight, when the Rath made contact with an electric wire. The procession was part of the Sri Krishna Janmashtami festivities.
In addition to the fatalities, four others sustained injuries, with one victim, identified as Ganesh, passing away while receiving treatment at Osmania Hospital.
The deceased individuals have been named as Krishna (21), Rudra Vikas (39), Rajendra Reddy (45), Srikant Reddy (35), and Suresh Yadav (34).
In response, Minister for Information Technology and Industries, D. Sridhar Babu, announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each family affected by this tragedy. He also confirmed that the government would cover the costs of medical treatment for those injured.
Posting on X, he expressed his deep shock and sorrow over the incident, extending sincere condolences to the grieving families and assuring them of the government's unwavering support during this challenging time.
“This incident is profoundly regrettable, and I have instructed the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. Anyone found negligent must face consequences, and strict actions will follow,” he stated.
“Moving forward, officials have been directed to prioritize safety standards at public events to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The injured are receiving the best medical care, and their recovery is our top priority,” he added in his statement.
The Minister informed that the District Collector would lead an inquiry into the incident, and appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings.
Musharraf Ali Faruqui, Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), visited the site of the accident to speak with locals and witnesses.
He informed the media that a TV cable conductor had come into contact with an electric wire, which led to the tragedy when the Rath touched the cable. He assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted, and accountability measures will be taken against those who were negligent.
Earlier, relatives of the deceased held a protest seeking justice for their loved ones. Police attempted to intervene as they approached the Warangal highway.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy expressed his profound sorrow over the tragic event, offering condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing for the swift recovery of the injured.
He urged festival organizers and authorities to take necessary precautions to avert such occurrences in the future, and called on the state government to support the affected families.
