Patna, Oct 3 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed profound sorrow on Friday regarding the tragic incident in which four individuals lost their lives after being struck by the Vande Bharat Express in Purnea district.
In a heartfelt condolence message, the Chief Minister stated, “This incident is extremely sad,” extending prayers for the strength of the grieving families and hoping for a swift recovery for the injured.
The state government has declared a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each family member of the deceased.
This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the entire Seemanchal region.
The accident transpired around 5 a.m. on Friday near the Kasba railway station crossing on the Jogbani-Katihar rail section.
Official reports indicate that five youths, involved in makhana farming, were walking back from a Dussehra fair along the tracks when they were hit by the Jogbani-Danapur Vande Bharat Express.
Three of them died instantly, while two others were immediately taken to Purnea Government Medical College Hospital.
One of the injured later succumbed to their injuries, while the other remains hospitalized.
MD Habiuddin, the chowkidar of Kasba Police Station, remarked, “This unfortunate incident claimed the lives of four young men while one is still undergoing treatment.”
The Jogbani-Danapur Vande Bharat Express was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15 via video link, with regular services commencing shortly thereafter.
Previously, on Thursday, another tragic event occurred in Bihar’s Kaimur district, where three people, including a woman, lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in a road accident.
According to police reports, a speeding SUV collided with a parked container truck on the south lane of NH-19 near Chhajjupur Pond under the Durgawati police station jurisdiction.
The deceased were identified as Muslim Ansari (45), a resident of Jharkhand, along with Munna Ansari (45) and Razia Khatoon (60), both hailing from Rohtas district.
The injured passengers, all occupants of the vehicle, were transported to Sadar Hospital, Bhabhua, for medical attention.
