I-T Department Imposes Fines Totaling Rs 1.41 Crore for GST Infractions in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Central Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department Kashmir has levied fines totaling Rs 1.41 crore for tax infractions during the current financial year 2024-2025 in Jammu and Kashmir.
An official announcement revealed that tax impositions have surged by 27 percent in comparison to the previous fiscal year 2023-2024 from April to November. The penalties this fiscal year have been imposed on traders who were found transporting goods in violation of the GST Act and its associated rules.
A notable escalation has been observed particularly since September 2024. In September 2024, there was an increase of 50 percent, while in October and November 2024, the rises were 113 percent and 24 percent respectively compared to the preceding financial year.
The enforcement operations, conducted under the oversight of the Commissioner of State Taxes, were spearheaded by the Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes Enforcement Central Kashmir.
The State Taxes Enforcement Central Kashmir has indicated that future efforts against tax infractions will be intensified to ensure greater compliance.
Continuous enforcement activities are executed by three distinct teams of Central Enforcement Kashmir across three districts in Central Kashmir, namely Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Budgam, under the supervision of state tax officials, along with support from field staff, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and guards.
The enforcement team stationed at Srinagar Airport, led by the STO, achieved a significant milestone by imposing substantial penalties on tax defaulters.
High-risk goods such as metal, scrap, cement, marble, plywood, timber, and TMT bars were specifically targeted during these operations.
Throughout the continuous enforcement activities conducted across the three districts of Central Kashmir, over three lakh e-way bills were scrutinized, marking a 27 percent increase compared to the previous financial year 2023-2024 from April to November.
